Now that Godzilla has added his mystery Bridezilla to the Matsui clan, the Yankee outfielder’s dad has his eyes set on the next generation of Japanese superstars.
“I am looking forward to grandchildren as soon as possible,” said Hideki Matsui’s proud papa, Masao Matsui.
While the elder Matsui wouldn’t reveal the identity of his slugger son’s mystery woman, he did say he was pleased with the match.
“She’s nice, quiet. She’s a good person. I am so relieved,” he said before boarding a plane at JFK Airport bound for Japan.
Matsui’s father was in town for the secret nuptials Wednesday, a ceremony he said was attended by 12 friends and relatives.
The Yankee slugger – known as Godzilla in his native Japan for his mammoth bat – surprised the media at spring training Thursday by announcing he had quietly returned to New York the day before to marry his bride.
He then showed reporters a picture of his beloved – albeit a hand-drawn sketch that did little to illuminate who the 25-year-old office worker is.
Matsui, 33, a cult-like figure in Japan who has trouble walking the streets there without causing a stir, is notoriously secretive and is going to great pains to shield his new wife from the public eye.
Matsui’s father said the couple met in Japan about two years ago and told him six months ago of their marital plans.
