David Wright isn’t looking like a Gold Glove winner this year.
Not only did Wright commit two errors yesterday in a 5-3 loss to the Brewers, doubling his season total, but his two other throws were both wide of the bag. That continued what has been a season-long trend for Wright, a first-time Gold Glover last year who said he is struggling with mechanical problems.
“It’s something where the ball is carrying into the runner,” said Wright, who also let a ball go through his glove on the second error. “It’s something I’m aware of and working on. It happens when I rush my throw over there.”
Wright still has the support of Willie Randolph, however.
“He’s going to be fine,” Randolph said.

Thanks to Jose Reyes‘ hamstring injury, Angel Pagan hit leadoff for just the second time in his major-league career.
Pagan, a hitting sensation this season while filling in for injured left-fielder Moises Alou, singled and scored in the first, but finished 1-for-4. Pagan said he welcomes the pressure that comes with replacing the energetic Reyes.
“Jose and I have a lot in common,” Pagan said. “I can put pressure on the bases, too.”

Judging from Randolph’s comments, backup catcher Ramon Castro won’t be back anytime soon. Castro has missed almost a month with what the Mets originally described as a mild hamstring train, and Randolph said there is no timetable for his return.
The Mets don’t appear worried, though, because Castro’s replacement, Raul Casanova, has experience and is filling in nicely. Casanova got his first start Friday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI in the Mets’ win.

Luis Castillo was back in the lineup after missing three games because of knee soreness and went 0-for-3. It was a scenario that figures to be commonplace this season as the 32-year-old second baseman tries to come back from offseason surgery.
Nelson Figueroa will get his second start Thursday at Shea vs. the Nationals and left-hander Matt Chico.
