SOBRIETY TESTS TATUM

THE ISSUE: Actress Tatum O’Neal’s arrest for attempting to buy crack and cocaine.

I like the right-wing slant of The Post – it’s a refreshing change from the usual leftist media. But true conservatism means: Stay out of my business (“Tatum Drug Bust,” June 2).

So what if Tatum O’Neal wanted some cocaine or crack? That’s her problem.

But to make it frontpage news? Grow up and mind your own backyard.

****

If anyone thinks this was a slip-up and the cops saved O’Neal from doing drugs for the first time in a long time, they are naive (“Cops Saved Me From Coke Hell,” June 3).

O’Neal had this excuse, plus others like, “I’m researching a role,” in the can and ready to go.

I want to thank Andrea Peyser for her compassionate and fair reporting of her conversation with O’Neal

(“Drug Arrest ‘Saved’ Me, Actress Says,” June 3).

I was surprised that Peyser did not crucify her.

O’Neal’s experience helped me stay sober today. I am sure that countless others will read Peyser’s article and be mindful of how easy it is to go out and pick up the habit.

Thank you.
