The priest who led mourners in saying a tearful goodbye to little Kyle Smith yesterday ripped into the guardians accused of beating, torturing and killing the 3-year-old boy, calling them “extremely” evil.
“A lot of time in life we say that the person that’s done something terrible is insane,” said the Rev. Kazimierz Kowalski, the pastor of the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel on the Upper East Side.
“Most of the people who do bad things are evil. In this case, it was extremely so,” he said.
Kowalski spoke after officiating at the funeral of the little boy who died June 6 after allegedly being beaten by his guardians, Nymeen Cheatham, 31, and Lemar Martin, 25, in their Bedford-Stuyvesant home.
Court papers say Kyle – who had a torn tongue and bruises on his back, buttocks, legs and scrotum – was sodomized, doused with cold water and forced to do pushups and march in place.
Cheatham and Martin are charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault and child endangerment.
