Former Rays reliever Brian Stokes will get a spot start for the Mets tonight when they take on the Marlins in a key NL East matchup at Shea Stadium.
The right-handed Stokes was called up from Triple-A New Orleans to take John Maine’s turn in the rotation (Maine is set to return Wednesday in Washington). Stokes, who last appeared in a big-league game on Sept. 26, 2007, was 10-8 with a 4.41 ERA in 23 starts for the Zephyrs.
As for the lineup, Jerry Manuel has moved Carlos Beltran back into the cleanup spot in place of Carlos Delgado after Beltran hit .333 in the first four games of this homestand against the Padres and Marlins.
