Yet another quick turnaround today for the Mets, who face the Pirates at home in a makeup game before departing for Washington on Tuesday. That means Jerry Manuel’s club won’t have much time to dwell on the Marlins turning into personal Kryptonite for Mike Pelfrey (pictured) in an 8-2 Florida win on Sunday. The Mets begin an eight-game stretch against two of the worst teams in the NL starting today, and colleague Kevin Kernan writes that this is where they need to make their move.
Then again, if the Mets look as feeble as they did against Marlins starter Josh Johnson, it will be a moot point.
In the notebook, Billy Wagner might make a rehab assignment for Single-A Brooklyn this weekend. There are also items on Brian Stokes, Ryan Church and Argenis Reyes.
