The Red Sox look to salvage a split in Chicago against the White Sox with Josh Beckett on the mound tonight at 8:11. The White Sox, who lead the AL Central by one-half game over the Twins, have been dominant at home this season with a 39-18 record. They will send Josh Danks to the mound against a Boston team that is 27-35 on the road and leads the Yankees by four games in the wild-card standings.

This could be a good opportunity for the Mets and Marlins to make up some ground on the Phillies, who start a west-coast trip with three games against the Dodgers (10:10, ESPN2), who are 4-5 since acquiring Manny Ramirez. The Phils will send Kyle Kendrick to the mound against Derek Lowe of the Dodgers. After three in Los Angeles, Philadelphia heads to San Diego to finish off the week-long trip.

After taking the series finale 8-2 yesterday in Flushing, the Marlins open a four-game series at home against the Cardinals, who also are in the thick of the wild-card race. Anibal Sanchez makes his third start of the season for the Marlins after returning from right shoulder surgery. Florida is in third place in the NL East, 2 ½ games behind the first-place Phillies and ½ game behind the Mets. Sanchez will be opposed by Joel Pineiro.
