Fire ripped through an Upper East Side apartment early yesterday, killing a retired postal worker and his elderly, wheelchair-bound mother, authorities said.
The blaze in the five-story building at 327 E. 93 St. broke out shortly after midnight. Firefighters had the flames under control in just over an hour, but were unable to save William Roberts, 65, and his mother, Anna Roberts, 89.
“I had a hard time getting out, so I could imagine they had a real hard time, because she was physically handicapped herself,” said neighbor Dan Guertin, 35, whom firefighters rescued from the roof.
