“Cupid” shot an arrow through hearts of its dedicated fans â but didnât dent the stone-cold, love-less suits at ABC who dropped one of the most innovative shows of its time.
“Cupid” was an ingenious concept: An unlucky-at-love shrink (gorgeous but believable Paula Marshall) saddled with a lovable mental patient (also nailed 100 percent by Jeremy Piven) who was convinced he was “Cupid,” god of love.
The Post and TV critic Michele Greppi lead a spirited campaign to save this smart romantic comedy, but to no avail. At least ABC knows its mistake and has green-lighted original “Cupid” creator Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars”) to take another shot at TV love â but sadly without its original cast.
Piven went on to cable glory with as popular cut-throat agent Ari Gold in “Entourage.” Marshall hasnât found the star vehicle she so richly deserves, but has been working non-stop since the end of “Cupid.” – David K. Li
