Comedy Centralâs “Halfway Home” only made it halfway to stardom before falling off the programming map. Created and co-starring the indelible Oscar Nunez (aka Oscar from “The Office”), “Halfway Home” chronicled the lives of societyâs least worthy â drug traffickers, addicts, prostitutes, thieves, arsonists and fruadsters â after having left prison but before being allowed to enter society. The fictional Crenshaw Halfway House in Los Angeles was the setting for a hysterical comedy that ran from March to May in 2007 before being officially canned in June.
The 30-minute program saw the hopeless cast of characters work through “family issues,” addiction, finding employment and generally keeping themselves out of prison (but not by stopping the actions that put them there, rather this time â trying not to get caught doing it).
“South Park” voice Kenny Carlyle and “Ugly Bettyâs” Octavia Spencer co-stared, and the always funny Dax Shepard (“Letâs Go To Prison” and “Employee of the Month”) even guest starred in the showâs sixth episode.
For fans, reruns of the show can still be caught sometimes – late, late night – on Comedy Central. – Melissa Jane Kronfeld
