June 28 – Robert Locke’s proposal was the perfect end to a miserable day for Melissa Smith. In June 2007, she was in tears over a nightmarish day at the office when Locke, an air conditioning systems mechanic, ran downstairs to fetch the engagement ring. “When he came back upstairs he asked me if I wanted to be miserable with him for the rest of our lives,” says Smith, a medical office coordinator. “It made my day all better.” The couple wed before 200 guests at St. James United Methodist Church in Lynbrook, and held their reception at Rocco’s Catering in East Rockaway.
