KANSAS CITY – Barack Obama says a lot of bad things about George Bush, but there’s one offense he won’t tag on the president: stealing your property.
At a town hall meeting here as he makes his way to Denver, Obama was asked about the “Bush/Cheney cabal,” and a rumor that the president was confiscating property from people who disagree with his Iraq policy.
“That can’t happen. That would be unconstitutional even under George Bush,” said Obama, who used to lecture on constitutional law.
It was the second question on US government subterfuge in as many days. Obama fielded a question in Iowa about whether the US gave a “green light” for Israel to attack Iran – something he expressed no knowledge of.
Obama was more focused on ripping rival John McCain, who he has been relentlessly tying to the unpopular current president.
“John McCain is not promising to do anything different than George Bush did,” Obama told the audience at an American Airlines repair facility that faces looming potential job cuts.
Obama continued to gush about wife Michelle’s convention speech last night, which featured an appearance by his two daughters.
“She was good. Wasn’t she good?’ he said to applause. “I’ve always said I am not the star of the Obama family. I rank fourth.”
