A single mother was shot to death in Brooklyn this morning after an intruder broke into her first floor apartment and marched her upstairs to her landlord, a well-to-do local pizzeria owner, where he was robbed, police said.
Police say the woman, described as in her 30s and mother of a six-year-old boy, was likely accidentally shot as the gunman robbed the landlord of more than $15,000 in cash.
The gunman apparently entered the woman’s apartment on 85th Street in Bensonhurst sometime around 6 a.m. He forced her and her female roommate upstairs to the landlord’s second floor apartment.
Police believe after the robber received a bag containing the cash his gun accidentally went off hitting the victim in the arm and chest.
She was pronounced dead at Lutheran Medical Center.
Neighbors say the victim had just moved into her apartment within the past month and was sharing it with another single mother.
Police are investigating if the woman knew the gunman, sources said.
