SARATOGA SPRINGS – The dark cloud over the Knicks continued tonight as the Knicks announced Jared Jeffries suffered a fractured left fibula during tonight’s scrimmage and will be out six to eight weeks.
Originally, Jeffries came off the court at tonight’s scrimmage with a strained calf after landing funny, missing the final 15 minutes. Jeffries had much impressed the new coaching staff and Mike D’Antoni all but admitted he was part of his expected nine-man rotation, classifying him as a center and comparing him to Boris Diaw.
The 6-11 Jeffries has been a bust in his first two seasons, with D’Antoni believing he’s been out of place at small forward. Jeffries made the highlight play of the scrimmage tonight with a blocked shot of Stephon Marbury’s breakaway layup.
Meanwhile, D’Antoni said Eddy Curry would miss the entire Saratoga training camp as he still battles a bacterial infection. Danilo Gallinari, their first-round pick, is also out indefinitely as he recovers from a bulging disc that caused pain shooting down his leg this summer.
Jeffries fractured his wrist during preseason in his first year with the Knicks, which hurt his adjustment.
