* Receiver Lee Evans signed a four-year contract extension worth $37.25 million. . . . The Bears suspended defensive tackle Tommie Harris for Sunday’s game against the Lions after breaking a team rule.
* Georgetown’s scheduled game tomorrow at Colgate has been called off because of an outbreak of norovirus at Georgetown. Nearly 150 Georgetown students have been sickened by the virus in recent days, and several football players have been exposed. A decision hasn’t been made whether to attempt to reschedule the game.

In Stuttgart, Germany, Venus Williams reached the Porsche Grand Prix quarterfinals by defeating Kateryna Bondarenko 6-4, 6-2, one day after sister Serena was beaten and lost her No. 1 ranking.
AUTO: Driver faces tax charges
Race car driver and “Dancing With The Stars” champion Helio Castroneves is facing federal tax charges in Miami. A grand jury returned a tax evasion indictment against the 33-year-old, who lives in a Coral Gables mansion.
NHL: Chelios out 3-6 weeks
Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios will be sidelined three to six weeks with a fractured shin bone.
GOLF: Overton grabs early lead
Jeff Overton shot a 5-under 67 to take the first-round lead at the Turning Stone Resort Championship, the second stop on the PGA Tour’s Fall Series, at Verona, NY.
* In Seoul, U.S. Ryder Cup star Anthony Kim shot a 7-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Korea Open. . . . Ji-Yai Shin shot a 5-under 67 to take the first-day lead in the Samsung World Championship in Half Moon Bay, Calif.
