Federal prosecutors yesterday accused racing champ and “Dancing with the Stars” winner Helio Castroneves with tax evasion scheme that allegedly hid millions of dollars from Uncle Sam.
Castroneves, his sister and lawyer were all charged with allegedly helping the 33-year-old Team Penske star roll away with $5 million in unpaid taxes over a four-year span.
The star driver, who lives in Coral Gables, Fla., first made his name by winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2001 and 2002.
But the Brazilian-born Castroneves elevated himself to huge pop culture fame last year by winning the fifth edition of ABC’s “Dancing” with partner Julianne Hough.
The three defendants could not be reached for comment yesterday. They’re due to appear in federal court this morning in Miami.
Last month, Castroneves drove the No. 3 Team Penske Dallara Honda car to victory in the Indy 300.
