Manny Ramirez is headed for free agency, and the Mets are expected to at least kick the tires on the 36-year-old slugger. Ramirez and agent Scott Boras are likely to seek a five- or six-year deal worth $20 million per year or more, but keep this in mind: Mets GM Omar Minaya is an unabashed Manny fan, the Mets are due for a profit windfall at new Citi Field next season and the club needs a way to make its fans forget about consecutive September collapses (especially now with the rival Phillies headed to the World Series).
