FOX and Major League Baseball have agreed to a 15-minute delay in the start of a possible sixth game of the World Series to carry an infomercial by Barack Obama.
The Democratic presidential candidate has purchased 30 minutes of time on all four major networks starting at 8 p.m. on October 29, but the deal put him at odds with Fox’s plans to carry baseball’s best-of-seven championship.
National League champions, the Philadelphia Phillies, will face either defending champions Boston Red Sox or the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, which would have a sixth game (if necessary) start at 8:20 Eastern.
If the game takes place, it will begin at 8:35 p.m. to accommodate Obama’s big-bucks 30-minute pitch for president.
“Fox will accommodate Senator Obama’s desire to communicate with voters in this long-form format,” Fox officials said in a statement yesterday.
Network officials said Fox would be willing to make similar time available to Senator John McCain’s campaign.
