* City Council Speaker Christine Quinn reversed her long opposition to reversing term limits (“Bloomy Kiss for Chris,” Oct. 14).
This will make it easier for Mayor Bloomberg to run for a third term.
Our mayor has proven, time and time again, that he has what it takes to make decisions that are difficult but necessary to make our city work. Now we are in hard economic times, and we need a mayor who knows what has to be done.
I applaud Quinn for getting the ball running. Kudos to the speaker.

* I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that Quinn has changed her position and will vote for extending Bloomberg’s term to 12 years and that Bloomberg will appoint Quinn to a position in his next administration.
This is bribery, plain and simple. Bloomberg is getting her to change her vote on this vital issue to favor himself by offering her a perk.
This is the kind of thing that used to go on in the back room, but now they’re brazenly up-front about it.
Both belong in jail.

* The mayor’s and Quinn’s sleazy flip-flops on the issue is pure nonsense.
It’s outrageous that they can fictionalize their “let the voters decide to elect us again” claims, because that was the original purpose of term limits – to not let powerful incumbents cheat in elections.
The voters already chose automatic removal over their right to keep voting for a Bloomberg or a Quinn.
We don’t trust our election process, which is why we voted for term limits in the first place.

* Thank goodness for elected officials like Quinn and Bloomberg.
Despite spurious character attacks, both of them continue to look for ways to improve our city and prepare it for the economic mess.
The assertion that extending term limits is somehow an insider deal is patently absurd. Does anyone honestly expect that the chief executive and chief legislator should not be speaking?
An inability to communicate is precisely what we currently have in President Bush, and I doubt anyone thinks that we should emulate that behavior.
Keep talking, Mike and Chris. We need your voices more than ever.
