Judging by the wishbone stamped on her show notes, Cynthia Rowley is in a wishful state of mind. Wishing for what? We’re not quite sure, since most of her collection didn’t hang together as it has in seasons past.
And the location – the teeny, tiny Jane Hotel – failed to serve any purpose. Its “ballroom” was more like a private library, and what was likely meant to inspire a sense of intimacy actually created a claustrophobic madhouse. The runway was literally seven steps long, making it almost impossible to properly check out the looks.
But from the little we could see, there was a pretty glittering gold brocade shift, killer tights embellished with sequins, a stunning cobalt spiral skirt, and a blood-orange frock paired up with a bib necklace; alas, none of these told a cohesive story.
One serious concern was the top with cut-out shoulders, a trend that’s also popped up at Herve Leger (Click for review) and Charlotte Ronson (Click for review) this week. What’s flattering about highlighting one’s pits?
To tie up the show’s theme, Rowley took a sweet bow and blew out a delicately lit flame. We’re hoping she wished for bigger real estate next season.
