An East Harlem baby sitter was arrested yesterday after the child she kidnapped for 24 hours was reunited with his mother, police said.
The 14-month-old boy, Heshesh Brent, was back safely in the arms of his relieved mother, Yenelle Brent, 34, who had called cops after her baby sitter disappeared with her son Sunday afternoon.
Niasia Hicks, 18, told investigators she had permission to leave Brent’s Second Avenue apartment with the child, and said she was hanging out with a friend on East 112th Street.
During the ordeal, Hicks called a cousin and her mother, and the child was recovered, according to police.
Hicks, who lives seven blocks away from the Brents, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child.
“I don’t know why she would do this,” said Brown, a maintenance worker at Gracie Mansion.
Brent, a mother of six, said Hicks was a friend of the family.
Brent said she left the boy with Hicks while she went to work and that when she returned home, they were gone.
