MAPS: Walking across Los Angeles

It’s Oscar Week, and over here, it’s all Los Angeles, all the time. This year, though, I wanted to try something different: I wanted to walk across the entire city, from the beach in Santa Monica to the bars of Downtown. For such a trek, I’d need backup – I enlisted NYP Travel contributor Jason Cochran, who graciously agreed to accompany on what I was fairly sure would turn out to be a fool’s errand.

It didn’t – it just turned out to be LONG. How long? About 17 miles on foot and about 7 miles by subway, long. The whole thing took us nearly 14 hours, in part because we kept stopping – there was so much to see. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Read all about the whole kit and caboodle right here. Along with the (oh so very long/sorry/I apologize) feature, you’ll also find links to a photo gallery and a guide to LA without a car.

If you’re really curious, follow along with this Google Map I did (just click above). It shows our exact route, with some of the stops (and other highlights) of our trek.

And yes, I’d do it again – though next time, I’m buying fancy shoes.
