Alex Franklin scored 22 points, Edwin Ubiles had 21 points and Siena defeated Iona 75-60 last night in New Rochelle to clinch at least a tie for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season title.
Franklin added 11 rebounds and Kenny Hasbrouck had 14 points for the visiting Saints (21-6, 15-1), winners of seven in a row against the Gaels.
Gary Springer scored 16 points and Scott Machado and Jermel Jenkins each had nine for Iona (12-15, 7-9), which has lost five of its past seven games.
Siena, with two regular-season MAAC games to go, can finish no worse than tied for first. Only Niagara, at 12-3 with three league games left, has a chance to catch Siena for a share of the conference title. Siena plays at Niagara on Feb. 27.
St. Peter’s 72, Marist 62
In Jersey City, Akeem Gooding scored a game-high 23 points as the Peacocks (9-17, 6-10 MAAC) won their third straight game. Ryan Schneider and Javon Harris each had 15 points for Marist (8-20, 4-12).
Canisius 69, Loyola (Md.) 67
In Baltimore, Julius Coles’ go-ahead three-point play with 43 seconds left gave Canisius the win.
Frank Turner led the Golden Griffins (8-18, 3-13 MAAC) with 23 points. Jamal Barney led the Greyhounds (11-17, 6-10) with 30 points and 11 rebounds.
