The Islanders still can’t be sure where they’re going to be playing in a few years.
It might be Long Island – either at Nassau Coliseum or a new building; it might be Kansas City; it might be somewhere else.
But the possibility of staying put and getting a new building got a bit of a boost yesterday when the town of Hempstead voted to adopt the scope of the environmental studies for the Lighthouse at Long Island project, meaning that they haven’t yet shot down the idea of a new building.
Of more pressing concern to the current crop of Islanders, however, is what remains of this season. The Isles visit Pittsburgh tonight (7:30; MSG-plus; WMJC, 94.3 FM) before returning to host Toronto at the Coliseum tomorrow.
They are looking to build on Saturday’s 4-0 win over the Devils, which came after they had lost seven of their previous eight games. The one win during the stretch was a shootout victory over the Penguins, who yesterday saw Sidney Crosby leave practice with a sore groin. He is probable for tonight’s game.
Scott Gordon, who missed Monday’s Isles practice for personal reasons, returned yesterday.
