A new study shows that passengers who fall victim to airline delays at Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports lost a collective $1.7 billion in 2008.
The burned dough reflects everything from blown hotel reservations for people on vacation to running meters on black cars waiting on late-arriving business jet-setters.
The study, commissioned by the Partnership for New York City, calculated the numbers by using Port Authority surveys of airline passengers to determine how many people who traveled used the three airports for work or play in 2008.
Overall, no one wins when there are delays, according to the report, which used national average incomes and demographics of travelers.
