The Cross Bronx Expressway is the worst highway in the nation.
Its 8.3 miserable miles of asphalt earned the dubious distinction of having four of the country’s 11 worst bottlenecks, according to a study released yesterday. Topping the list is the westbound lead-up to Exit 4B at the Bronx River Parkway, where frustrated drivers puttered along at an average 11 mph at congested times in 2008 – and it’s almost always congested.
Westbound exits at the Sheridan Expressway rank third worst, White Plains Road, fourth, and Westchester Avenue, 11th among all the awful choke points in America.
The data was compiled by the traffic-research firm INRIX, which relied on real-time GPS data provided by cooperating drivers.
Nineteen of the country’s 50 worst bottlenecks are either in the five boroughs or in nearby counties.
