Playboy hires new president

Playboy Enterprises, the men’s magazine publisher, named Alex Vaickus to its new position of president.

Vaickus, currently president of global licensing, will oversee print, television, digital media and licensing operations, the Chicago-based company said yesterday. He will report to Chief Executive Officer Scott Flanders.

Playboy saw circulation slide 9.2 percent in the first half of this year, the second-biggest drop among the top 25 US magazines by circulation, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The publisher said in May it was considering raising the price of its flagship monthly magazine, reducing the frequency of publication or cutting circulation.

“We have the resources and ability to expand the Playboy brand’s reach and to develop new revenue streams,” Vaickus said in the statement.

Playboy was flat at $2.88 in NYSE trading. It has dropped 33 percent this year.
