Film fest scratches cat tales

Here, kitty kitty.

If you hear a whole lot of meows coming from Anthology Film Archives in the East Village, don’t worry. It’s not a cat-astrophe, it’s just the first edition of the New York Cat Art Film Festival, running tomorrow and Saturday.

The fare ranges from Blake Edwards’ “The Pink Panther” (1963) to a collection of shorts by experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage to Anthology director Jonas Mekas’ five-minute video salute to Max, the theater’s dearly departed feline superstar.

The program was curated by Brigitte Cornand, who says she was inspired by the beloved Max and by her own Siamese cat from New Orleans, PetiteLoup.

“This exciting program includes a number of original, never-released shorts, vignettes and homages,” says Cornand.

“I received such enthusiastic responses from cat lovers, artists and filmmakers that many of them turned their cameras on their favorite felines and made a special film for the festival.

“Thus we will premiere Annette Messager’s ‘Only My Cat Understands Me,’ as well as Michael Auder’s ‘Chelsea Cats’ and Tracey Emin’s ‘Me and Docket.’ ”

Sounds purr-fect.

The Anthology is at Second Avenue and Second Street; anthologyfilmarchives.org.
