Mexico will play eight friendlies in the run-up to next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Nestor de la Torre, the director of national teams, said on Thursday that Mexico-based players would begin training in Mexico City on April 12 for three games in the United States, one in Mexico and three in Europe.
The final warm-up will be in South Africa.
Europe-based players will be worked into the team as their seasons end.
Mexico’s opponents will be set after the World Cup draw on Dec. 4 in South Africa.
“The draw will be a watershed for many things, letting us know our opponents, the style of football we are going to face,” de la Torre said. “After this we can talk with many countries about matches.”
The World Cup begins on June 11 and ends on July 11.
