A third term for Mike: blessing, curse or both?

THE ISSUE: The Post’s endorsement of Michael Bloomberg for mayor of New York City.

***

I agree with The Post’s endorsement of Michael R. Bloomberg for mayor (“Bloomberg for Mayor,” Editorial, Oct. 23).

There is much more to admire about Bloomberg than there is cause to dislike him.

Everyone knows that these are rough times and that almost no- thing, let alone jobs, seems secure. While it seems our safety net is disappearing, Bloomberg makes me feel safe.

He makes me feel like he will be able to steer us clear of the icebergs, and that’s what we need down at City Hall.

Bill Thompson hasn’t really come across like that as city comptroller and wouldn’t as mayor.

The city needs Bloomberg for another four years.

Bloomberg is a very intelligent and competent individual who definitely has helped New York City.

However, when the voters, including me, voted twice against extending term limits, he basically told us that our view was not relevant and our vote meaningless.

Every future mayor can now seek three terms or perhaps, using the back-door approach, extend term limits even further, all without voter approval.

It is because of Bloomberg’s disrespect of voters like myself that I will not vote for him as mayor for a third term. I need a candidate who respects the wishes of the voters.

I’ve been a reader of The Post for over 60 years, and I lived in New York all my life until 2002, when I moved to New Jersey.

I don’t know how any New Yorker can vote for Bloomberg when he went against the public, who voted twice for term limits.

I guess when you are a billionaire you can spend millions to get to your goal.

Even though the bloom has long left Bloomberg, I would still vote for him if I lived in Gotham.

What other choice is there? Thompson may be a nice guy, but he’s a non-entity.

Vote for Bloomberg if you are inclined to be dictated to, as to how to live your life and what not to eat.

But, remember: If you disobey, tax increases will be the price you will pay, and who knows what other penalties the future may bring?

By not voting Bloomberg a third term, you are deterring the spread of this cancer before it kills our democracy.
