Following comments from Scott Niedermayer that he could be traded back to the Devils, Ducks GM Bob Murray told the Los Angeles Times that will not happen.
“He’s going to retire a Duck when he chooses to retire,” Murray said.
In town this week to play the Devils, Niedermayer told NJ.com that a trade was a possibility. The defenseman, 36, played the first 12 years of his career with the Devils before leaving in 2005 to join Anaheim and play with his brother Rob.
Rob Niedermayer signed with the Devils this season as a free agent.
The Ducks are last in the Western Conference, leading to speculation they may be active before the March 3 trade deadline. Scott Niedermayer’s one-year contract does not include a no-trade clause.
