Mauled by the media: Oprah’s shameful stunt

* Regarding Oprah Winfrey and the episode on her show featuring the woman who was mauled by the chimp, I am appalled that this freak show was permitted to take place — and all in the name of ratings (“Face of Courage,” Nov. 12).

Can you imagine Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck interviewing the lady and exposing her face? This country’s left-wingers would be demanding their heads.

* I was saddened to read “Face of Courage,” complete with its graphic photographs, about the woman from Connecticut.

Don’t you think this poor, yet very brave woman has been through enough without people making money at her expense?

If nothing good can come out of a situation, then there’s no point in doing it.

Please try to remember that this woman has a soul, and anything anyone one does to profit off her is a shame.

* Poor Charla Nash — as if life isn’t already hard enough. I admire her spirit.

I am not a religious man, but I hope God will watch over Nash. She has a rough road ahead.

* How could you put the picture of the woman without a face on your front page?

Why would you choose to sensationalize that when you could have put Sgt. Kimberly Munley’s story on the cover?

* Winfrey should not be praised, but seriously criticized.

Oprah has manipulated and preyed upon the mass-media audience for too long with cheap sensationalism and endorsements.

From inventing a phony doctor named Phil to staging emotional moments with vacuous celebrities, her antics should be called for what they really are — cheap media that feeds her undeserved media empire and image.

Oprah didn’t “unveil” the victim, she embarrassed her and raised doubts about the emotional integrity of all who watch and follow the TV show.
