Roast beef nirvana comes to Brooklyn

Roast beef sandwich lovers, your pleas for salvation have finally been answered.

It was announced this week that the long planned Arby’s slated for the Fulton Mall will finally open inside the historic Gage and Tollner’s restaurant site at 372-374 Fulton Street.

Franchise operators said the Arby’s — currently the only one of its kind in Brooklyn — will have a soft opening on January 21 with an official opening by early February, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.

“We wanted to come into the Brooklyn market with a splash,” franchise owner Raymond Chera told this paper last year when the plans were first announced. “There were a number of different places we were looking to open in but this site is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a great spot for our first restaurant.”

Chera immediately put history buffs at ease, claiming that he was going to make only “modest changes” to the famed restaurant that once served screen legends Jimmy Durante and Mae West. The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the changes a few months later.

“We look forward to bringing Arby’s to Brooklyn,” Chera said, adding that the restaurant will open from 10 am to 9 pm daily.
