Even as the ever-bickering state Senate managed to dole out Republican chairmanships during a Democratic majority, the City Council is planning to give all the coveted positions to the Dems, sources told The Post.
Granted, there are only five GOP members of the 51-member Council compared to 30 in the 62-person Senate, but at least one Councilman thinks the standard should be the same.
“In the day and age when we see the state Senate opening up to members of the opposite party to receive chairmanships, so should the New York City Council,” Vinnie Ignizio (R-S.I.) said. “For the Council to be trumped by the state Senate on this issue is laughable to me.”
Council Speaker Christine Quinn is speaking to Minority Leader James Oddo (R-S.I.) in her ongoing, Council-wide negotiations on committee assignments, her spokesman said.
