Chuck ducks bank shot

Sen. Charles Schumer yesterday ducked taking a position on President Obama’s controversial plan to restrict the activities of Wall Street banks.

Schumer also declined comment on Mayor Bloomberg’s criticism that Washington was waging a damaging war against the city’s golden goose, Wall Street.

“I haven’t seen any details of the proposal. It’s very important to look at the details,” Schumer (D-NY) said following a press conference at his Manhattan office.

“But let me say this in general. It’s a very careful balance. You can’t do nothing. The banks did many, many things wrong that led, in part, to the economic troubles we’re having in New York and elsewhere,” said Schumer, who will meet with Obama financial adviser Paul Volcker next week to discuss the plan.
