Prince is dreaming of a “Purple Reign.”
The sprightly rock superstar — who is probably the most famous person in Minneapolis — has become such a huge Minnesota Viking fan that he has written a song in honor of their appearance in the NFC Championship Game.
Dubbed “Purple and Gold,” for the team’s colors, the tune sounds like a religious hymn and less like the kind of funky, sex-infused pop for which he is known.
When asked why he wrote the song, Prince only said, “I saw the future.”
The song was written after Prince showed up at the Vikings’ victory over Dallas last weekend.
Last week, as the team prepared for tomorrow’s game against the New Orleans Saints, Viking quarterback Brett Favre was asked what it was like to be listed with Apollonia and Vanity as Prince muses.
“It just doesn’t seem right. If [Prince] saw my rendition of [the “American Idol” contestant song] ‘Pants on the Ground,’ I don’t think I have a shot,” he told the Fox station in Minneapolis.
