It’s official: Marty Markowitz is finally admitting he’s a “lunatic.”
The boisterous Brooklyn borough president isn’t ready to check in to a psych ward quite yet, but he did confide to the Post that he’s a self-proclaimed Luna-tic — that is, over the anticipated grand opening of the new Luna Park in Coney Island.
In preparation of the May 29th opening, the Beep is set to help unveil the park’s “I’m a LUNAtic” ad campaign today at Borough Hall. Billboards and other ads with the catchy slogan will be aimed at getting tourists and New Yorkers to visit the amusement park’s 19 rides by renowned Italian amusement designer Antonio Zamperla.
But Markowitz isn’t the only “lunatic” coming out of the closet. Local Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr. is also expected to be on hand.
And the Beep is boldly accusing Mayor Bloomberg of being a lunatic also.
“Like me, the mayor is a ‘lunatic’ over Luna Park,” he said, “but even though we share the same birthday, I am definitely the younger and better looking ‘lunatic.’”
Luna Park, named after the once-famous Coney Island playground that closed in 1944, is being operated by Central Amusement International through a city lease on the former Astroland Park site off the boardwalk.
