The powerful Communication Workers of America, District One, threw its weight behind Assemblyman Richard Brodsky in the crowded Democratic field for attorney general.
The union has 75,000 members in public health and communications jobs.
Brodsky, who represents Westchester County, is competing against five other Democrats for the job: Eric Dinallo, the state’s former insurance superintendent; Liz Holtzman, a former congresswoman and district attorney; Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice; state Sen. Eric Schneiderman and first-time candidate Sean Coffey, an attorney.
Many jumped into the race assuming – as the rest of the political world does – that Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will run for governor.
