The great Lynn Redgrave received her first Oscar nominations for Silvio Narizanno’s “Georgy Girl” (1966), memorably playing a chubby girl described as an “ugly duckling” who married man James Mason pursues as his mistress. She was also nominated for James Condon’s “Gods and Monsters” (1998) as director James Whale’s (Ian McKellen) severe housekeeper.
Redgrave worked extensively in theater and on TV, including as Weight Watchers’ first celebrity spokesperson. Her death at a way too young 67, announced today by her children following a battle with breast cancer, follows by less than a month that of her older brother Corin. Their surviving sister, the great Vanessa, lost her daughter, Natasha Richardson, a year ago. Condolences to her family.
