US officials yesterday blasted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for planning to crash the UN nuke conference this week, demanding he first “come clean” about his country’s bomb-making ambitions.
Ahmadinejad attending the nuclear nonproliferation conference today in New York is “the height of hypocrisy,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
He called on the UN secretary and nations such as China and Russia to condemn Ahmadinejad when he shows up in New York.
“To give him a pass and let him join the family of nations while his country is building a nuclear weapon is outrageous,” Schumer said.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said Ahmadinejad’s visit was merely a stunt and there was “no confusion” that Iran is violating the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
