Republicans in the state senate today vowed to provide the necessary votes to more than double the number of charter schools in new york.
“We’ll be the responsible party to make sure that happens,” said Senate GOP spokesman John Mcardle.
The Senate could vote later today to pass a bill that would l boost the nember of charters to 460 from 200, coupled with additional rules governing charters.
Democrats hold a razor thin 32-30 majority. Though Senate Democratic conference leader John Sampson is pushing the measure, some dems are expected to oppose it.
That means GOP votes are needed to pass it.
