Riverdale personifies the unpredictable nature of the Ivy League. After starting out 1-5, The Bronx school has reeled off three consecutive wins, including an impressive 11-3 victory over Fieldston, which upset league leader Poly Prep last week, on Saturday. Riverdale has now knocked off Hackley, Dalton and Fieldston in the last week.
Shane Gear picked up the win, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched, Armando Perez had three doubles and three RBIs and Nate Irving scored twice and drove in a run for Riverdale (8-6).
“They are getting more confident each game,” Riverdale coach Doug McDonald said. “The pieces are starting to fail into place for us. In the beginning, we were young and we were just getting comfortable playing with each other. We were kicking the ball around, our pitching was putting a lot of guys on base. … Now we’re on the right path.”
Berkeley Carroll sweeps Dwight: The Lions swept Dwight by scores of 14-6 and 16-6 in ACIS as Robb Paller continued a hot week by going 10-for-14 with six doubles and eight RBIs, Zeke Bardash picked up the win in both games and Joey Martinez notched two saves. Berkeley Carroll improved to 11-1 in league and 13-4 overall.
