Matsui’s single off David Aardsma (0-2) came after Abreu doubled leading off the 10th.
The Mariners lost their eighth consecutive game, all at home.

In Oakland, Calif., Ben Sheets finally pitched like an ace, Daric Barton drove in a pair of runs and the Athletics handed the Rays their second road loss of the season.
Sheets (2-3) scattered four hits over 6 1/3 innings and had a season-high eight strikeouts after having allowed 17 runs in only 7 1/3 innings over his last two starts.
