This year Angel Pagan has altered a few things to try to stay on the field.
“I’m doing a lot of stretching. My routine has been different. I’m paying more attention to my preparation for the game,” the oft-injured Pagan said after delivering a two-run triple in yesterday’s 5-4, 11-inning win over the Giants at Citi Field. “In the offseason, I tried to get a new plan.
“My main thing is to stay healthy because I haven’t played a full season yet,” the center fielder added.
Pagan has been on the disabled list at least once in each of the past four seasons — with five different injuries — but as the 28-year-old said yesterday: “Injuries are not on my watch right now.”
Pagan has made it through the first 30 games of the Mets’ season unscathed.
Yesterday Pagan was involved in two of the Mets’ run-scoring rallies.
In the first inning, he opened with a leadoff walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a Jason Bay sacrifice fly to put the Mets up 1-0.
The next inning, with men on second and third and two outs, Pagan sent a liner to left field that Mark DeRosa dove for but missed. It became a two-run triple — Ike Davis and Jeff Francoeur scored — and a 3-0 Mets lead.
Pagan now has a team-high-tying three triples as well as 12 RBIs, which trails just David Wright (21), Rod Barajas (17) and Francoeur (16).
