The final buzzer of the Frozen Flashback was not the end of the hockey road for players from the 1989 Delbarton and St. Joseph’s of Montvale squads.
Those schools were scheduled to meet for the New Jersey high school state title that year, but the game was canceled due to a measles outbreak.
Last month, that matchup finally happened, with Delbarton winning 3-2 at Morristown’s Mennen Arena in a battle of late-30-somethings that raised more than $250,000 for cancer-related charities.
Now there’s more. The teams will stand together tomorrow on the floor of the New Jersey State House in Trenton, where they will be congratulated by the General Assembly. And, according to Delbarton’s James Olsen, there have been discussions with producers about a possible feature film, with a book also in the works.
Also, the Delbarton team will accept an offer to play a squad made up of Devils and Rangers alumni at the Prudential Center next February.
