A Kansas City car dealer told a federal court Wednesday that he provided “material support” to al Qaeda, the Kansas City Star reported.
Khalid Ouazzani, 32, admitted that he had sent $23,500 to al Qaeda via a bank in the United Arab Emirates back in 2007.
He pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges in the Kansas City court and faces a possible sentence of 30 years to life.
The Moroccan-born, naturalized U.S. citizen also admitted that he and unnamed co-conspirators had discussed fighting in Afghanistan, Iraq or Somalia, the Star reported.
Ouazzani’s lawyers issued a written statement that said, in part,“He deeply regrets what he has done, and is taking steps to atone, to the extent he can, for his crimes.”
Ouazzani has been in federal custody since February.
