CHSAA baseball roundup: Birthday boy Medina lifts streaking All Hallows

Brandon Medina doesn’t usually start for All Hallows. But Thursday’s regular-season finale against LaSalle fell on his birthday and Gaels coach Ed Gutierrez decided to give the senior right fielder the nod.

Medina didn’t disappoint, going 2-for-4 at the plate, driving in two RBIs, including the game-winner, as All Hallows defeated LaSalle, 11-5, in nine innings.

Jeremy Tejada also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Irwin Zorilla had a pair of hits to lead red-hot All Hallows (10-8), which won its fourth straight game and has won five of its last six games heading into the postseason. LaSalle fell to 4-14.

Archbishop Stepinac 6, Fordham Prep 2: Steve Martinez doubled and drove in two runs, Steven DePompeis had a pair of RBIs, Greg DiGiacinto doubled and Donato Signore pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get the win as Stepinac (13-5) scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to win its third straight Bronx/Westchester crown Thursday afternoon at Manhattanville College. Sal Annunziata had a two-run home run for Fordham Prep (12-6).

Iona Prep 7, Mount St. Michael 0: John Devaney struck out eight and combined with John Stack and Joe Finnegan to toss a three-hit shutout, while Beau Kiklis drove in two for Iona Prep (13-5) Thursday in The Bronx. Mount St. Michael fell to 6-12.

Xavier 4, St. Raymond 3: Ricky Eusebio allowed no earned runs in five innings, but St. Raymond (13-5) was victimized by eight errors Thursday afternoon in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Xavier improved to 12-6.
