The 2010 edition of the New York Asian Film Festival is getting closer, and I could not be more excited. It will kick off June 25 with “Ip Man 2,” a martial-arts thriller from Hong Kong, featuring Sammo Hung (who will be at the screening) and Donnie Yen.
The centerpiece attraction is “Confessions,” from Japan. Directed by Tetsuya Nakashima (I loved his “Memories of Matsuko”), it tells of a school teacher convinced her daughter was murdered by one of her own seventh-grade students.
Closing night will feature “Blades of Blood,” a swordplay actioner from Japanese helmer Lee Joon-ik, who is scheduled to attend the screening. In all, 45 movies from seven nations will unspool at the popular festival. It runs June 25-July 8 at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater and July 1-4 at the Japan Society. In addition, there will be midnight screenings on Fridays and Saturdays at the IFC Center. Tickets for all movies go on sale June 10. Details: subwaycinema.com
