ALBANY – Eliot Spitzer may be open to launching a new TV career but returning to the political world as a statewide candidate should be off the table.
That’s the finding of a new Marist College poll that found 66 percent of New York voters don’t want the disgraced ex-love gov to run for statewide office this year.
That’s a worse number for Spitzer, who resigned in disgrace in March, 2008, in a high-priced hooker scandal, than just last month, when a Marist survey found 58 percent of voters opposed to his seeking statewide office.
“Eliot Spitzer’s attempt to reconnect with New York voters is not paying office in the short run,’’ said Marist polling director Lee Miringoff.
“He has become more visible lately but not more electable,’’ he continued.
Spitzer has said in recent days that he misses public office but despite privately expressing an interest in seeking elective office once again he’s publicly insisted that he has no immediate plans to do so.
