HACKENSACK, N.J. — Officials have filed new charges against a suspended northern New Jersey police chief already accused of insurance fraud.
Hackensack Police Chief Ken Zisa (ZEE’-sa) was charged Wednesday with official misconduct. Zisa is accused of improperly intervening in an assault case involving a person with whom he had a “‘close relationship.” cm-bd
Bergen County prosecutors say the charge stems from a 2004 assault and robbery of a teenager in which no charges were filed despite ample evidence.
Along with Zisa, Detective Sgt. Thomas Aletta is charged with official misconduct and evidence-tampering.
The chief and his former girlfriend were charged earlier this month with filing a false insurance claim.
Zisa declined comment on the latest charge and Aletta’s lawyer says the charges are “just allegations.”
